May's Artist & Ambassador of the Month: Catherine Vincent

by Stephen Hans

We are proud to feature Catherine Vincent as our alcohol ink artist and ambassador for the month of May. Get inspired by her beautiful textural style and gorgeous night sky landscapes!

1) What kind of alcohol ink artist are you? How did you get started? Tell us a little about you.

I have always had a creative spirit, life can get busy, there was a need to heal and grow so I chose myself and made a return to my art world in 2018. My first medium was alcohol ink. I started experimenting, taking a few online workshops and through process and error I finally found my own style. I take my inspiration from nature and crystals. Living in the waterfall Capital of Ontario, Canada, there is much to capture. I work in abstract style but I love painting night sky landscapes with my inks.

2) What would you say are your specialties as an alcohol ink artist? What sets you apart?

I think my style is recognizable by the textures I create in my pieces along with saturation. Most alcohol ink artists tend to battle the humidity, but I use it to my advantage. You most definitely will find me at my desk during a rainy day, with the window open. I also work with a lot of white ink, you will not find one of my pieces without it. It presents a challenge but that is where the magic happens.

3) Do you teach how to do this at all? How can we learn from you?

I do not teach, as I am a full time health care worker. I am always willing to help out and provide tips and information to fellow artists. Ask me anything!

4) What advice for new alcohol ink artists would you offer?

You will waste supplies and that’s ok, it’s part of the learning process. Not everything will work out the way you intended, surrender control, that’s the best part. Lastly, let the inks do their thing, that’s where the magic happens!

5) What have you enjoyed most about using T-Rex Inks? Do you have any in-depth review videos / posts about our inks we can link to?

Some of my most favourite colours of inks to use are T-Rex inks. Wisteria, Coral blush, Mojave Dust, Monsoon, Volcanic ash and Ancient amber are my standard go to inks. They flow well, but my favourite part is that they keep their pigments, because I love bold saturated colour!
